Waxing vs Threading: Which One Is Right for You?

Both waxing and threading remove hair from the root, so results last weeks rather than days. But they suit different areas and different skin types. Here's how we help clients choose at the salon.

Threading: precision for the face

Threading uses a twisted cotton thread to lift hairs out line by line. Because it touches only the hair — not the skin — it's ideal for sensitive, acne-prone or retinol-using skin. It's also the most precise option, which is why eyebrow shaping is almost always threaded. Best for: eyebrows, upper lip, chin and sideburns.

Waxing: speed for larger areas

Waxing removes a full patch of hair in one pull, making it far quicker for arms, legs, underarms and body. Modern options like Rica wax are gentler, less sticky and kinder to sensitive skin than traditional honey wax. With regular waxing, regrowth often comes back finer and softer.

Quick comparison

  • Precision: threading wins for detailed shaping.
  • Speed on large areas: waxing, by a distance.
  • Sensitive facial skin: threading is the safer choice.
  • Regrowth: both last roughly 3–5 weeks depending on your hair cycle.
  • Aftercare: for both — no sun, steam or harsh products for 24 hours.
